Throughout high school, he studied piano with Sister Maris Stella at Ave Maria Convent. Over the past 45 years, he has actively participated in and contributed to Albany’s diverse musical scene, including serving as an accompanist for the Albany Light Opera and Theatre Company in the late 1970s, teaching piano to students in the 1980s and 1990s, playing various instruments in ensembles such as the Albany Sinfonia, City of Albany Band, and ALOTCO, and accompanying and conducting the Albany Choral Society and students of local instrumental teachers.
Patrick has participated in nearly every Albany Music Eisteddfod since the event was reestablished in 1980. He first competed in the 1980 Eisteddfod and has since taken on roles as a competitor, teacher, and accompanist.
