Conditions of Entry
Entering a music competition is an exciting experience, and the Eisteddfod committee has collaborated with local music teachers to streamline the process for you.
This guide provides all the details on how to enter, what to anticipate, and the competition rules.
The Eisteddfod is open to amateurs.
The Committee reserves the right to reject any entry without assigning any reason for doing so.
Important Information
All Performers must arrive and be ready 15 minutes prior to their item time.
Program times will be adhered to as accurately as possible. Please be aware that these times are indicative only and may vary.
There will be no official accompanist appointed. Competitors must therefore provide their own accompanist. Recorded accompaniment will not be permitted. Accompanied means with an instrument.
Competitors, teachers and parents must not approach the Adjudicator before or during the session in which their student/child is performing. Queries are to be directed through the Adjudicator’s Secretary.
Tuning may only take place 15 minutes prior to performance in the designated area prior to an item going on stage. Only a few seconds will be allowed to check tuning on stage. If the piano is to be used with the item a reasonable time to check tuning will be allowed on stage.

Entries can be submitted online by clicking the entries tab above. Please note, entry forms submitted by email or post cannot be accepted.
Entrants in Grade items must not enter at lower grade levels than they are currently studying.
Competitors may NOT perform the same piece in more than one item.
Entries will be open until 11:59pm on 19th April 2024.

Performing in the Albany Eisteddfod is a fantastic opportunity to build confidence and receive feedback on musicianship and performance. In order for the Adjudicator to accurately access your performance it is critical that you provide high quality PDF copies of sheet music with your online entry.
Please ensure you have PDF copies of sheet music prior to entering online.

The Adjudicator is authorised to stop a performance exceeding the time limit.

First, Second and Highly Commended awards will be given for each item where appropriate.
Those shortlisted to perform at the Showcase will be chosen by the adjudicators and committee, and will demonstrate the variety of musical instruments and talent of the students involved.
Not all first place recipients will be able to perform at the Showcase.

Photos of performers may only be taken by the committee appointed photographer/videographer(s) during the event and used to promote the Eisteddfod via print and digital formats. Permission to be photographed for official purposes may be granted or witheld at the time of entry. Photos/video are not permitted to be taken by members of the audience.

Full refunds less a $5 administration fee will be granted where an entrant has a pre-existing engagement meaning they cannot make their performance time allocated in the program, and this had been communicated to the committee at the time of entry.
Notice of a pre-existing engagement conflicting with the Eisteddfod item, and request for a refund must be made in writing no later than one week prior to the commencement of the Eisteddfod competition.
Refunds will not be given where a performance is missed due to sickness, no-show or where the performer has withdrawn.

Competitors are requested to observe a reasonable standard of dress. School uniforms are acceptable.

Only one entry will be allowed from each competitor in Duets or Groups in any one item. In exceptional circumstances, this rule may be relaxed, but only with permission of the Committee at the time of entry.

All Competitors must enter their correct name and address when entering, and no person shall be allowed to compete under any name other than that completed on the entry.

There will be no official accompanist appointed. Competitors must therefore provide their own accompanist. Recorded accompanist will not be permitted.

Automated acompaniment such as tapes or CD’s and electronic instruments ar not permitted. Microphones are not permitted.

Please respect other performers and remain silent during the rendition of all items on the program. Any competitors causing disruption or offending in this respect may be banned from the whole Eisteddfod.

The Committee, while desiring to adhere to the program as printed, reserves the right to amend if necessary.

A detailed critique of the work of each choir will be given by the adjudicator. One conductor may conduct any number of choirs.

The decision of the Committee in all questions and disputes arising out of or not provided for by these conditions shall be final. All entries are received subject to this proviso and shall not be subject to any appeal at law.

In all sections competitors MUST state on the entry form the title and composer of any piece they intend to perform, as well as the performance time. This piece must be performed at the Eisteddfod.
NOTE: REPEATS should not be played unless they are essential to keep the musical sense of the piece.

Competitors must upload PDF copies of the sheet music being performed with each entry. Copies of music are required for the adjudicator to accurately critique the performance.
A piece should be performed from an original score, unless the piece of music and/or edition is in the public domain.
Competitors must play the piece(s) as stated on the entry. Substitutions cannot be accepted.

The order in which competitors shall compete will be drawn up after the closing of entries and shall be as printed in the official program. If not present when called upon, competitors are liable to disqualification. Only in exceptional circumstances will competitors be allowed to transfer from one session to another, and then only with the approval of the committee.

The adjudicator has the right to withhold a certificate in any section where sufficient merit has not been displayed.

The adjudicator’s decision will be final and on no account should competitors or teachers approach the adjudicator.

In all competitions subject to an age limit, the age at 1st January shall be deemed to be the age of the competitor.

The committee reserves the right, in any age limit competition, to call upon any competitors, at any time, to furnish proof of age.
